I've got the Question.........Now for the answers!

Well some of these questions I have been asked by people reading my blog others are simply ones that many Norwegians have asked me.

1. Why did you choose to come to Norway? Well I could put down 5 different countries. I had Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and Norway. I decided to add Norway onto the list because everyone had said what a lovely place it was and how great the scenery was. I knew someone who was from Bergen and I had a teacher who had travelled there and said how great it was.

2. Why did you decide to become an exchange student? This is a tough one. I'm not 100% sure why I decided to become an exchange student. I really wanted to travel and learn about a new culture and a new language. When I first thought of the idea I was only thinking of doing a 3 or 6 month exchange but then I read more into it and decided, what the heck I may as well do a year!

3. Hows Norway? Norway is great! It is such an amazing country! I love it so much. The snow at the start of my year was awesome and now the greenery and summer weather is so beautiful.

4. Favourite thing about Norway? Well I think it would have to be the scenery! What I have seen so far is sooooo amazing! Then theres the people too, I have some great friends and host families:)

5. Whats the craziest thing thats happened? Well that would have to be Eurotour! From running around Vilnius, to some of the crazy things that happened on the cruise liners to our craziness in Russia and so on. I won't go into too much detail ;)

6. Whats the worst day you had? Well I had one day where I really missed my Mum and Dad!

7. Whats the best day you've had? Well that is definitely a tough one! The day I learnt to downhill ski was pretty awesome! There have been so many amazing days so I can't really pick one!

8. What would you consider to be the main socio economic differences between Australia and Norway? This is a hard one, I don't really know! Well I think in Norway there isn't as much initial difference between 'rich and poor' as such. Norway receives a lot more immigrants than Australia but their living style isn't quite as apparent as that in Australia. When you are in Norway you can't necessarily pick what kind of people live in the houses, like you can in some spots in Australia.

9. Hows it like to be an exchange student? SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!

Midsummer

Well today is midsummer or summer solstice, aka the longest day of the year. From now on the days get shorter and shorter. Right now its 10:30pm and I'm sitting outside in shorts and a tshirt! I think I'll put a jumper on soon though. Its a little cloudy so I don't think it will be as bright as it has been. Lovely night though.

Q&A Session

Hey! Because I don't have much to do I thought I'd do a little Q&A. If anyone has any questions they want to ask about my exchange or exchange in general then email me at lexiejanebernard@hotmail.com or comment on this post.

It could be fun!:)

Schools Out!

Today was the last day of the school year. We now have 2 months of Summer holidays ahead!

It was a good morning. We weren't there for very long, but it was good. We didn't have to be there until 9. First we sat outside, listened to some of the music kids playing and eating icecream. then we went to our classroom and had a little party. All the grades were handed out and then we went home.

Summer should be fun!

Sommer i Norge

Chicken Preparations

We are getting more chickens at the end of this month so we have to do preparations for them in the barn. Today we had to put plastic trays in all the cages. It took a fair while, there are so many cages!

1000s of eggs!

Today we had to put all the eggs from the plastic containers into the cardboard ones. We literally moved over a thousand eggs!

Notodden

On Sunday I travelled to Notodden via Oslo to see Larissa (one of the Brazilian oldies) before she leaves. It was a short trip, but really nice.

She lives on a farm outside of Notodden. On the way home from we stopped at Heddal Stave church. It is the biggest one still standing in Norway. It is a church made completely of wood. It was so beautiful.  We walked down to the river the first day. It was really nice there. Then we sat on the balcony of the house overlooking the mountains. It was such a beautiful view.

The next day we went for a short walk in the woods. As we were walking along there was a red deer run right beside us! Larissa (being a city slicker) decided to turn back then. In the afternoon we went and explored the town. We wandered around the main part of town which was quite cute, then around the lake main big lake and river in the town. Then we went up to the top of one of the mountains to a lake and forest. It was so nice there. We walked around the lake. Being a relatively hot day a lot of people were swimming.

This morning we walked back into the woods near at Larissas house and went to the lake there. It was so amazing there! Really peaceful and simply beautiful. We could yell out and there was an echo. It was such a stunning place to be.

It was so great to see Larissa again, as the next time we see eachother could be a very long time or never. It was a nice relaxing trip.

Vikings, Fjords and Fun

What a week it has been! On Wednesday I headed to Haugesund on the West Coast of Norway to stay with Helen (another rye student). The trip over there was really good. The most amazing scenery I have ever seen. I saw so many amazing lakes and mountains! I think Norway hasn't quite got the concept of Summer. At one point we were driving through mountains all covered in snow and the water was frozen.

Most of the day Thursday we wandered around Haugesund. In the evening we went to an International Dinner thing with AFS exchange students. There was a Brazilian, a Chinese boy, an Italian and a Chilean. We all made food from our countries. Me and Helen took ANZAC biscuits and vegemite. We all did a short talk on our countries. It was a nice night.

Friday morning we walked to a big statue. We walked form there along the coast to a lighthouse. That afternoon we went to a girls house (she's connected to AFS). We went with some of the AFS kids. We walked to the top of a hill and saw a great view over Haugesund. We were going to camp up there too, but it was illegal except in a designated camping area and we didn't know where one was. So we ended up setting up the tents in her backyard. We grilled sausages and bananas with chocolate. The next day we just packed up the tents and went home. It was really fun.

That night we went to one of the AFS girls birthday party. That was fun. It went until midnight and it took us an hour to walk home. We walked back with a few other kids. It was so weird because it was light outside! The sun in Norway is so crazy!

Sunday was the Viking Festival! That was sooo much fun!! It was held at an old viking village on an island outside of Haugesund. There were heaps of people dressed up in viking clothes with tents. They were selling viking clothes and hats and things. There were people wood carving and making bread. There were people rowing long boats and shooting bow and arrows. The best part of the festival were the shows. We watched one where these guys were playing all these viking games. Most were basically a test of strength and skill. Then we watched a fight. that was so cool!

It was such a great trip!
